Positions

This is a list of all the positions used in softball.


Offense: The team that is trying to score the points

Batter: The player that goes up  to home plate to try to hit the ball and run the bases the main goal of the batter is to score a point.

Defensive: These are the players in the field that try to prevent the other team from advancing from base to base and scoring points

Pitcher: Player who throws the ball for the batter to hit using an underarm motion to hit in the strike zone where the player will get out instead of a foul.

Catcher: The player that sits behind the batter to catch the ball when it is thrown.

First baseman: the position to the right of first base they are in charge of getting players out when they are on first base.

Second baseman: is placed in between  the 1st and 2nd base and are in charge of tagging players running to second and players standing on second.

Short stop: is between 2nd and 3rd base and is in charge of getting all balls hit to this area.

3rd baseman: covers all balls hit to 3rd base. requires a strong arm.

Outfielders: there are 3 people who stand in the outfield to catch the pop flies which are balls hit high and to and far.

This is an example of a softball diamond and a diagram of where all the players are positioned.
